DHS Secretary Says Omar Under Investigation Over Marriage Allegation

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated on September 11, 2026, that an ongoing investigation into Representative Ilhan Omar includes the allegation she married her brother to facilitate his entry into the United States. Mullin made the comments during an interview at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas. "We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States. We know he lives now in London," Mullin said. He added that the investigation extends beyond the marriage allegation to examine "the whole family migration" and possible illegal activity in how the family originally entered the country. Mullin indicated that deportation is a possible consequence if evidence of immigration fraud is found. "There's no expiration to that. If we can prove it that, maybe you shouldn't have been here in the first place, we'll deport you," he stated. He emphasized that any case brought forward would be based on evidence of wrongdoing, not politics. Representative Omar has previously denied the allegation.
