DHS Reduces Nevada Noncitizen Voter Estimate to 185

The Department of Homeland Security has significantly walked back its initial claim that nearly 16,000 noncitizens were registered to vote in Nevada, telling state election officials last week that only 185 individuals have been confirmed as potential noncitizens following a manual review. The revelation, detailed in a virtual meeting on August 13 and subsequent correspondence, has prompted Nevada officials to caution against treating the original, much larger figure as established fact. The discrepancy stems from a July 16 White House address in which President Donald Trump cited a DHS review identifying approximately 278,000 potential noncitizen voters nationwide. A declassified memo released that day specified that more than 250,000 of those alleged registrations were in four states: Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. For Nevada, the initial figure presented was 15,903. However, during the August 13 meeting, DHS officials clarified that the 15,903 number was a preliminary "ceiling" and not a confirmed total.
