Dharma Productions Announces 2028 Film on RAW Founder R.N. Kao

Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective have announced a theatrical feature film on Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founder of India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The project, which is currently untitled, is scheduled for a worldwide release on August 11, 2028. The announcement was made on September 21, 2026, marking the 58th anniversary of RAW's founding. Producer Karan Johar stated that the 2028 release date is intended to coincide with the agency's 60th anniversary. The film is based on the book "Gentleman Spymaster" by Nitin Gokhale. Johar said that Leo Media Collective has spent two years researching and developing the narrative. "We want this film to be a gripping story based on true facts to pay homage to RAW and honour their milestone year with a solid motion picture," he said in a statement. The film's story will span from 1955 to 1971. It will chronicle the events leading to the creation of RAW, its establishment in 1968, and its first mission during the 1971 war against Pakistan. Kao, who served as RAW's first chief from 1968 to 1977, will be the central figure.
