Dhanush postpones OM, rules out Diwali release

Dhanush has postponed the planned October 16, 2026, release of OM Chapter 1, saying the film will move to a later date to avoid opening a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. He also ruled out a Diwali release because Suriya’s Scene had already been announced for that period. No replacement date has been announced. Dhanush announced the decision in a statement posted on social media on September 23. He said Jailer 2, scheduled to open October 15, was the reason OM would leave its original slot, describing the change as a mark of respect for Rajinikanth. Dhanush also noted that shifting a film close to release brought challenges. The actor and filmmaker said OM would not move into the Diwali window because Scene had already claimed that date. He said Scene’s release was announced first and argued that major films should take one another’s plans into account. Those explanations were Dhanush’s stated reasons for the scheduling decision. The announcement leaves OM without a confirmed theatrical date. Dhanush said a new date would be announced soon, but did not specify when. Until then, the film’s revised timing remains unclear. Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15.
