Destin Daniel Cretton reportedly in talks for Spider-Man 5

Director Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly in talks to helm the next Spider-Man film, following the massive box office success of his latest movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The project is in early development, with no confirmed release date, and its timeline remains uncertain due to the director's other commitments. The report, first noted by industry sources, indicates that Cretton is expected to return for the fifth installment in the Tom Holland-led franchise. This comes as Brand New Day has become one of the highest-grossing films of 2026, earning over $2.4 billion worldwide. Producer Amy Pascal stated in August that if Sony has its way, Cretton will direct the sequel. "There's no writers room. If we have our way, he certainly will be," Pascal said, praising the director's work on the recent film. However, the director's schedule is currently packed with other projects. Cretton is attached to direct a live-action adaptation of the manga and anime series Naruto, which is expected to begin principal photography in 2027.
