Denmark warns of Russian sabotage plans

European nations are confronting an escalating campaign of suspected Russian sabotage operations targeting defense industries and infrastructure, with Denmark issuing a fresh warning on September 3 that Moscow is actively recruiting its citizens for potential attacks. The alert from Denmark's Security and Intelligence Service (PET) adds to a broader pattern of covert activity that European governments say is designed to undermine Western support for Ukraine without triggering a direct military conflict. PET chief Emil Graesholm stated that Russian intelligence services are "actively preparing acts of sabotage targeting the defence industry in Denmark." He explained that operatives are seeking to recruit "ordinary Danes" through social media and gaming platforms for seemingly simple tasks like photographing companies or reporting on security conditions, which could be precursors to more serious operations. The agency has briefed relevant companies on the threat and urged them to enhance their security measures. This warning follows a recent incident in Germany where an explosive-laden drone was discovered at Leipzig-Halle Airport in August.
