Denmark warns of intensified Russian hybrid attacks

Denmark’s Defence Intelligence Service says Russia is likely to intensify hybrid attacks against Western and NATO targets in the coming months, while assessing that the risk of a limited military attack on a NATO country bordering Russia is low but growing. The warning is an intelligence assessment, not evidence that Moscow has decided to attack; the service described an outright invasion as highly unlikely. In its updated threat assessment issued Thursday, the service forecast more frequent attacks with greater consequences for targeted countries. It said the activity could include sabotage and destructive cyberattacks. The assessment also said attacks previously aimed mainly at creating fear and weakening public support for aid to Ukraine have increasingly targeted efforts to keep that support flowing, including defence companies and railway transports carrying military equipment. The military risk is distinct from the forecast of hybrid activity. Intelligence service chief Thomas Ahrenkiel said the possibility of a limited attack against one or more NATO countries bordering Russia could not be ruled out.
