Democrats Sue to Block Armed Agents at Election Sites

Democratic congressional leaders and party campaign groups filed a federal lawsuit on September 23 seeking to bar armed federal agents from polling places and other election-related sites during the 2026 midterms. The complaint asks a judge to declare unlawful what the plaintiffs describe as an administration policy allowing such deployments, but no court has ruled on the claim and officials have not announced a nationwide plan to station agents at voting locations. The plaintiffs are Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Governors Association. Their complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, names federal agencies and senior officials as defendants. The groups argue that statements by administration officials and reported encounters involving federal agents at election sites amount to an informal policy permitting armed personnel to appear there.
