Delhi University Students Union voting begins amid tight security

Voting for the Delhi University Students Union elections is underway on Friday, September 18, 2026, with over 2.75 lakh students eligible to cast ballots amid heightened security and a warning from the Delhi High Court. Polling is scheduled in two shifts, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with results to be declared on Saturday. The high-stakes contest is primarily a direct fight between the RSS and BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI). The Left-backed alliance of the All India Students Association (AISA) and Students Federation of India (SFI) is also contesting the central panel posts. ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for president, while NSUI's candidate is Vijay Shankar Meena. Security arrangements are extensive, with over 600 police personnel deployed across the campus. Officers are equipped with body-worn cameras, and CCTV cameras and drones will monitor polling activities. The university has restricted vehicular movement on key stretches, including Chhatra Marg and University Road.
