Delhi offers zero-cost rooftop solar for 230,000 homes by 2027

The Delhi government announced on September 1, 2026, a major expansion of its rooftop solar initiative, offering domestic consumers systems of up to 3 kW at zero upfront cost as part of a revised policy aimed at dramatically increasing solar adoption across the capital. The scheme targets households with an average monthly electricity consumption of up to 400 units in the financial year 2025-26. Under the second amendment to the Delhi Solar Energy Policy, 2023, the government will combine the Central government's existing subsidy of Rs 78,000 with an additional capital subsidy of Rs 78,000 from the Delhi government.
