Delhi Intensifies Unsafe Building Crackdown

Municipal authorities in Delhi have intensified a crackdown on dangerous buildings and unauthorized constructions following a deadly collapse that killed seven people near Satya Niketan on September 6. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) conducted a citywide enforcement drive on Wednesday, carrying out 34 demolition actions, sealing 17 properties, issuing 22 show-cause notices, and passing four demolition orders across the capital's 12 zones. This action follows similar demolitions and seals on Tuesday. According to MCD officials, the drive is part of an intensive, zone-wise exercise targeting unauthorized construction, misuse of properties, and structurally unsafe buildings. The enforcement efforts, which require police assistance, have focused on areas including Old Delhi and outer Delhi localities, with specific actions taken against properties declared dangerous. Demolitions have included roof slabs and partition walls, with reinforcement cut using gas cutters, and brick walls razed.
