Delhi court grants bail to AAP leader Satyendar Jain in corruption case

A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former minister Satyendar Jain in a corruption case involving alleged irregularities in the tendering process for sewage treatment plant projects of the Delhi Jal Board. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order, directing Jain to furnish a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh along with two sureties of the like amount. Jain was arrested by the Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch on August 18 in connection with the case, which was registered in May 2024 following a complaint by the Directorate of Vigilance. He had been sent to 14-day judicial custody on August 19. Five other accused, including former Delhi Jal Board CEO Udit Prakash Rai, were also arrested and remain in judicial custody, with their bail hearings scheduled for September 5. The case concerns alleged manipulation of the tendering process for the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants operated by the DJB. The Anti-Corruption Bureau has alleged that tender conditions contained restrictive technical specifications intended to favor Euroteck Environment Pvt Ltd, thereby limiting competition.
