De Zerbi confirms Richarlison will not face Liverpool in Carabao Cup
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed forward Richarlison will not be selected for the club's Carabao Cup third-round tie against Liverpool on Tuesday, despite the player being eligible to compete in the competition. The decision comes as Tottenham endures a historic goalless start to the Premier League season. De Zerbi addressed the situation during a press conference on Monday, stating that Richarlison's status remains unchanged. "The situation is the same," De Zerbi told reporters. "At the start of this season I spoke to him many times to convince him to stay and he didn't want to. I can't go every day to pray for him to stay." Richarlison was omitted from Tottenham's 25-man Premier League squad earlier this month after being informed he is not part of the first-team plans. However, Carabao Cup regulations do not require players to be registered in the league squad to be eligible, meaning the Brazilian could have featured at Anfield. De Zerbi has chosen not to utilize that option. The forward's future at the club has been uncertain throughout the summer. He started the season opener at Brentford but was subsequently told he could leave.
