Daryl Dixon Final Season Adds Jimmy Smits

Published 8 September 2026

The fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is set to premiere in 2027, with AMC releasing a new teaser trailer that offers a first look at the concluding episodes. The trailer also confirms the addition of Emmy-winning actor Jimmy Smits to the cast. Smits will portray Captain Alejandro Perkins, a former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who has discovered a unique method of survival amidst the post-apocalyptic landscape. The teaser concludes with Smits' character speaking to a bloodied and disoriented Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, with the line, "Welcome home, son." The upcoming season will see Daryl and Carol Peletier, reprised by Melissa McBride, navigating the ravaged badlands of Spain. The synopsis indicates that the duo will "grasp onto hope and each other as uncertainty about their future grows" as they continue their quest to find a way back home and reunite with loved ones. Filming for the season has been completed, and it is currently in postproduction. The announcement of the final season was made during the show's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025.
