DAC Approves Rs 1.10 Lakh Crore Defense Buys

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved defense procurement proposals valued at approximately Rs 1.10 lakh crore on Monday, September 7, 2026. The approvals aim to bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces and significantly promote domestic defense manufacturing. A key aspect of the approved acquisitions is the emphasis on indigenous production, with around 98 percent of the procurement slated to be sourced from Indian industry. This move underscores the government's focus on self-reliance in defense production and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. For the Indian Army, the DAC granted approval for the procurement of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs), Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MMLs), Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), Trawl Tanks, and the Sarvatra Bridge System. The CBRN vehicles are designed to detect and monitor areas contaminated by CBRN agents, while HMVs will enhance mobility and logistics in challenging terrains.
