Crypto PAC Fairshake Scales Back Massachusetts Primary Ad Spending
The cryptocurrency industry's political action committee, Fairshake, has scaled back its advertising spending in the Massachusetts primary, a move that comes as the group reported a significant war chest for the November general election. The decision reflects a strategic reallocation of resources away from a high-profile race where the industry had a clear stake in the outcome. Fairshake and its affiliates, including the Democratic-focused Protect Progress, spent $189,527.60 on media supporting incumbent Representative Jake Auchincloss ahead of his September 1 primary victory over challenger Jason Poulos. According to Federal Election Commission filings, the spending was directed toward mailers. Poulos, an AI policy researcher, criticized the intervention, alleging the materials used artificial intelligence-generated content and called on Auchincloss to renounce the support. Neither the FEC disclosure nor materials from Poulos established that Auchincloss or his campaign coordinated with or helped produce the advertisements, which is prohibited for independent expenditures. Auchincloss won the primary with 72.3% of the vote.
