Pearl Abyss has announced the first major paid expansion for its action-adventure game Crimson Desert, titled Charting the Unknown, which will launch on October 15, 2026. The reveal took place during the PlayStation State of Play event on September 3, 2026, showcasing a new chapter that continues the story of protagonist Kliff and his companions. The expansion is set in a hidden region beyond the game's titular desert, where the narrative picks up after the events of the main game. According to the announcement, players will join Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they embark on a journey to discover their purpose and determine their futures in this new land. The trailer depicts the characters at an older stage of their lives, with Kliff showing grey in his beard. Charting the Unknown introduces a substantial array of new gameplay mechanics and activities. A key addition is naval exploration and combat, allowing players to captain their own ship and sail across the ocean. The expansion also features underwater exploration, with Kliff equipped with a diving suit to investigate submerged ruins. In one sequence, he is shown riding a shark for faster underwater travel.
