Cowboys Re-Sign QB Joe Milton to Practice Squad

The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed quarterback Joe Milton to their practice squad, two days after waiving him to make room for a new running back. The move, confirmed on Wednesday, September 2, came after Milton cleared waivers and chose to remain with the organization despite reported interest from other NFL teams. Milton was initially waived on September 1, as a corresponding roster move after the Cowboys claimed running back Emari Demercado off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. The decision followed a preseason competition for the backup job behind starter Dak Prescott. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced on September 2, that Sam Howell had won the No. 2 quarterback role. "We looked at the whole body of work. We just felt like Sam had done a little bit more in terms of executing the offense in certain areas," Schottenheimer said. He described the choice as "very, very hard." Both quarterbacks performed well during the preseason. Milton completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Howell posted 314 yards and three touchdowns, including a rushing score, against one interception.
