Cowboys RB Malik Davis Carted Off With Hip Injury

Published 11 September 2026

Dallas Cowboys running back Malik Davis suffered a hip injury during practice on Friday, September 11, 2026, and was carted off the field, casting doubt on his availability for the team's season opener against the New York Giants. The injury occurred just two days before the Week 1 game at MetLife Stadium. Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones described the injury as "pretty serious" and indicated it could sideline Davis for some period of time. "We don't have the final details, we'll know more, but certainly so disappointed for Malik," Jones said via the team website. "Obviously tough for our team, but like anything it's next man up." Davis, 27, had recently secured the Cowboys' No. 2 running back job behind starter Javonte Williams following an impressive preseason. His injury creates immediate uncertainty in the backfield depth chart ahead of the season's start. The timing is particularly unfortunate for Davis, who had worked his way back into a prominent role after beginning training camp behind other running backs.
