Court Refuses Bail for Alleged Fake Agency Director

A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused a bail application for Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the alleged nonexistent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), but ordered that he be granted access to his lawyers while in police custody. Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the ruling on Thursday, September 3, 2026, stating that the application needed to be served on the police to allow them to respond in the interest of fair hearing. Adeyemi, who has been detained since his arrest in Osun State in July, had filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit seeking six reliefs. These included an order for his release on bail, permission to seek medical attention from practitioners of his choice, and an injunction preventing police interrogation without his lawyer present. The court granted only one of these requests, directing the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to provide Adeyemi with "unimpeded access to legal practitioners of his own choosing at all reasonable hours.
