Cornell investigates Day Hall damage amid assault lawsuit
Cornell University is investigating damage to Day Hall after an anonymous group claimed responsibility for breaking a glass entrance door and painting slogans on the building early Monday, October 5. The damage came amid renewed campus attention to a former student’s civil lawsuit alleging she was sexually assaulted at a fraternity gathering in 2024. The identities of those responsible for the damage have not been confirmed, and no arrests were reported. The slogans, painted in red near the entrance, accused the university of protecting perpetrators and called for an end to patriarchy. The anonymous group said it targeted Day Hall because senior administrators work there and connected its action to the lawsuit and demands for changes to Greek life and Cornell’s disciplinary process. Its claim does not independently establish who carried out the vandalism or substantiate its accusations against the university. Cornell spokesperson Kyle Kimball said the university was investigating the property damage. Cornell’s inquiry into Day Hall is separate from the criminal investigation into the alleged assault. The reports did not identify anyone as responsible for the vandalism.
