Como beat Lens 9-1 to match Champions League margin record
Como defeated Lens 9-1 in the Champions League on November 4, matching the competition’s largest winning margin and becoming the second team to score nine goals in a modern-format match. Anastasios Douvikas scored a hat-trick, and Matteo Papaccioli scored on his senior-team debut as Como recorded the result in France. Douvikas opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added a second in the 32nd. Nico Paz made it 3-0 before halftime, finishing a move set up by Douvikas. Como extended the lead soon after the break through Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf and Douvikas, who completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute. Mattia Liberali scored Como’s seventh in the 62nd minute. Lens replied through Ruben Aguilar three minutes later, but Martin Baturina restored Como’s seven-goal cushion. Papaccioli scored in stoppage time; the goal was initially ruled offside before a video review confirmed it. The eight-goal margin equalled the Champions League record set by Liverpool, who beat Besiktas 8-0 in 2007, and Real Madrid, who beat Malmo by the same score in 2015. Como also became the second team to score nine goals in a match since the competition adopted its modern format in 1992....
