Commerce Dept. publishes economic data on blockchains
The U.S. Department of Commerce has partnered with Chainlink to publish key government economic statistics, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and inflation data, on public blockchain networks. This initiative marks the first time a federal agency has made official economic data directly accessible to blockchain applications through an oracle network. The collaboration makes six data feeds available across 10 blockchain networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic, and ZKsync. Chainlink stated that support for additional networks can be added based on user demand. The data originates from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and covers three major economic indicators: real GDP, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers. Each indicator is provided in two formats: one feed reports the current level, and another shows the quarter-over-quarter change at an annualized rate. Real GDP tracks inflation-adjusted economic output, measured in billions of chained 2017 dollars. The PCE Price Index is the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, closely watched by investors.
