Columbia Officer Killed, Another Injured in Shooting

A Columbia, South Carolina, police officer was killed and a second was injured in a shooting on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after responding to a domestic dispute call. The suspect, a 33-year-old man with an extensive criminal record, also died in the incident. The deceased officer was identified as 29-year-old Christopher DeLong Jr., who had been with the Columbia Police Department for two years. The injured officer was identified as David Dymock, who was reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was identified as Adam Tyler Dowdy of Prosperity, South Carolina. The incident began around 9:30 a.m.
