Colorado beats Georgia Tech 14-13 on blocked kick

Published 4 September 2026

Colorado staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat Georgia Tech 14-13 in their season opener on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. The victory was sealed on the final play when Colorado defensive back Boo Carter blocked a potential game-winning field goal attempt. The Buffaloes trailed late in the fourth quarter of the defensive struggle before quarterback Julian Lewis engineered an 80-yard drive. With just 37 seconds remaining, Lewis connected with tight end Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown, giving Colorado a 14-13 lead. This score snapped a significant offensive drought for the Buffaloes, who had only managed one touchdown in the second quarter prior to the decisive late-game drive. Georgia Tech had built a narrow lead earlier in the second half. After a scoreless third quarter that kept the score at 10-7, the Yellow Jackets extended their advantage with a field goal. However, Colorado's defense had kept them in contention throughout the game, including blanking Georgia Tech in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets' only touchdown of the night came on a 100-yard kickoff return by Rahkeem Smith in the second quarter.
