Coinbase Rebrands Base App Back to Coinbase Wallet
Coinbase is rebranding its Base App back to Coinbase Wallet, reversing a name change made just over a year earlier as the company shifts the self-custodial product toward multichain trading. The company announced the change on Sept. 10, 2026, roughly 14 months after renaming Coinbase Wallet as the Base App in July 2025 as part of an effort to build an everything app combining social networking, messaging, payments, mini-apps and trading. The social experiment did not attract the expected adoption. Chief Executive Brian Armstrong said in March that the social push did not quite work, and the company redirected the app toward trading and self-custody. In July, Base creator Jesse Pollak handed leadership of the app to Jordan Fish, known as Cobie, and returned his attention to the Base blockchain after acknowledging that creator-focused features had fallen short. Ryan Kass, head of Coinbase Wallet product, said the restored name better reflects the product's role as Coinbase's self-custodial front door to what the company calls its everything exchange.
