Coinbase Launches Regulated Crypto Derivatives in Canada

Published 5 September 2026

Coinbase has launched regulated cryptocurrency derivatives contracts for eligible investors in Canada, marking a significant expansion into the country's supervised financial markets. The offering includes 23 perpetual and dated futures contracts on digital assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, alongside commodity and index futures. The new products are available through Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc. (CFM), an entity registered as a futures commission merchant with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This move provides Canadian investors with access to derivatives within a regulated framework, a notable development in a market that has historically relied on offshore or unregulated platforms for such instruments. The contracts allow for leverage of up to 10 times on supported assets, enabling traders to open both long and short positions. They are structured in nanosized contracts, which require less initial capital. In addition to cryptocurrencies, the offering includes futures linked to gold, silver, oil, and the COIN50 index.
