Coinbase Launches IPO Share Access for US Retail Investors

Published 21 September 2026

Coinbase has launched a new service allowing eligible U.S. retail investors to request shares in selected initial public offerings at the offering price before public trading begins. The feature, announced on September 21, 2026, debuted with the IPO of smart-ring maker Oura, which is set to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker OURA. The service represents a significant expansion for the cryptocurrency exchange into primary equity markets. It operates through Coinbase Capital Markets, a FINRA-registered broker-dealer that acts as a best-efforts selling group member. This entity aggregates customer orders and routes them through Apex Clearing Corporation for execution, clearing, and custody. Coinbase stated that its broker-dealer does not underwrite transactions, hold inventory, or take proprietary positions. Final allocations are not guaranteed. Coinbase emphasized that the number of shares a customer receives depends on the total supply provided by underwriters and the aggregate demand from all customers. Consequently, a request may be filled completely, partially, or not at all.
