Coinbase Files SEC for US Stock Perpetuals
Coinbase has filed notice registrations with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to offer single-stock perpetual futures to domestic investors, a move that could bring a popular form of leveraged, round-the-clock stock trading onshore for the first time. The cryptocurrency exchange announced the filings on September 3, 2026, stating it is working to bring the product to the U.S. market in collaboration with both the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The filings, submitted on September 1, include a Form 1N for Coinbase Derivatives, LLC, registering as a national securities exchange for security futures products, and a Form BDN for Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc., registering as a security futures product broker-dealer. These notice registrations are a procedural step that opens the door for the entities to offer the product, but they do not constitute final regulatory approval. Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad described the filings as a "first step," noting that product approval from the CFTC is the next required milestone.
