Coinbase Files for US Single-Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase has filed with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to list the first single-stock perpetual futures in the United States, seeking to bring a derivatives product popular in cryptocurrency markets into the regulated equity space. The filing, submitted by Coinbase Derivatives on September 18, 2026, is pending regulatory approval and would allow traders to gain leveraged price exposure to individual stocks without owning the underlying shares. The proposed initial lineup includes roughly 50 to 60 major U.S. stocks, with Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, and Nvidia among those named. The contracts would offer 24/5 trading, running around the clock from Monday through Friday, and would have no fixed expiration date. Positions could remain open as long as traders meet margin requirements and any applicable funding obligations. Unlike purchasing stock, holding a single-stock perpetual would provide price exposure without granting shareholder rights such as voting or dividends. The products would use recurring funding payments to help keep contract prices aligned with the referenced equities. Leverage would also be available, potentially magnifying both gains and losses.
