CJP Withdraws Sept 5 Protest After SC Quashes NEET Protest FIRs

The Cockroach Janta Party has withdrawn its call for a protest march scheduled for September 5 in New Delhi, following assurances from the Indian government and a Supreme Court order to quash first information reports linked to nationwide student protests over the NEET examination controversy. The decision was announced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, after the Union government and several state governments moved the Supreme Court seeking to close cases against protesters. CJP co-convenor Saurav Das informed a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant that the campaign deemed it appropriate to cancel the march in light of the government's assurances and the court's order. The Supreme Court subsequently directed that all FIRs registered across the country in connection with student protests held between July 20 and July 25 should be treated as closed and not pursued. The court invoked its special powers under Article 142 to ensure complete justice in the matter. The government's application to the Supreme Court sought the quashing of 13 FIRs in Delhi for offences including rioting, attempt to murder, and damage to public property.
