Chirag Paswan receives death threat letter, seeks probe and security review

Union Minister Chirag Paswan received a death threat via an unsigned letter sent by post to his ministry on Tuesday, prompting his office to seek an urgent investigation and a review of his security arrangements. The communication, which contained two mobile numbers, warned that Paswan would be "killed shortly by hardcore terrorists." Paswan, who serves as the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and is president of the Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas, is currently a Z-category protectee under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Following the receipt of the threat, his Additional Private Secretary, Alok Kumar Singh, wrote to the Union Home Secretary, describing the matter as one of "grave concern" that raised "serious apprehensions regarding the safety and security of the minister." The letter from Paswan's office requested that the Home Ministry initiate a thorough investigation into the origin, authenticity, and circumstances surrounding the threatening communication. It also asked for an immediate review of the minister's existing security arrangements and their augmentation, if necessary, given the threat perception and his scheduled public engagements.
