China warns of consequences over Taiwan's Pacific Islands Forum attendance

China has warned of unspecified consequences over Taiwan's participation in events surrounding the Pacific Islands Forum in Palau, injecting geopolitical tension into a summit focused on regional unity and climate change. The warning came after Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung attended the forum's opening ceremony on Monday night, an event hosted by Palau, one of only three Pacific nations with formal diplomatic ties to Taipei.
