Child dead, two others and woman critical after NSW stabbing

One child has died and two other children and a woman are in critical condition after being found with stab wounds in a vehicle in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Waratah Road in Valley Heights, near Springwood, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on September 20, 2026, following reports of the incident. Upon arrival, police and paramedics discovered three children and a woman inside the vehicle, all suffering from severe stab wounds. One of the children was pronounced dead at the scene. The two surviving children, believed to be under five years old, and the woman, who is in her 40s, were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Westmead Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. All three remain in critical condition. Several members of the public were already providing first aid to the victims when first responders arrived. A crime scene has been established, and detectives from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances of the incident. Police have confirmed they are not looking for any other persons in connection with the stabbing at this stage.
