Cher Opposes Daughter-in-Law's Guardianship Bid for Son

Cher is opposing her daughter-in-law Marieangela King-Allman's attempt to be appointed as guardian for her son, Elijah Blue Allman, in a Los Angeles court filing that alleges King-Allman is motivated by money and fame. The singer filed a supplemental brief on August 28, 2026, arguing against King-Allman's appointment. According to court documents, the New Hampshire State Hospital and the rest of the family are "adamantly opposed" to the appointment, citing King-Allman's estrangement from Elijah, her failure to assist him before his recent arrest, and the belief that she is "inserting herself back into the picture on a quest for money and/or a bit of fame." Elijah Blue Allman, the son of Cher and the late Gregg Allman, is currently in custody at a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire. He faces criminal charges in two separate cases for felony burglary, criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass, and breach of bail. The New Hampshire State Hospital initiated a guardianship proceeding for Allman on July 7. A hearing to determine whether King-Allman can serve as guardian was scheduled but has now been moved to December 1.
