Celtic posts £4.8m annual loss as revenue falls

Published 24 September 2026

Celtic reported a £4.8 million after-tax loss for the financial year ended June 30, 2026, reversing a £33.9 million profit a year earlier, as revenue fell and cash reserves declined. The club’s annual results, announced September 22, put revenue at £111 million, down from £143.6 million. Year-end cash fell to £66.4 million from £77.3 million. Operating expenses rose to £122.1 million from £117.1 million, while gains from player sales dropped to £16 million from £31.5 million. The results also recorded higher player amortisation, at £15.4 million compared with £13.8 million. Chairman Brian Wilson attributed the revenue decline primarily to Celtic playing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League in the previous season. In his statement, he said the change reduced UEFA distributions and affected other areas, including ticketing and retail. The results do not quantify the effect of any one factor on those income streams. The figures cover the year through June 30, 2026. Celtic’s reported £31.6 million cost for six permanent signings came after that date and therefore falls outside the financial year.
