Celtic agree fee for PSV midfielder van den Berg, eye Devenny

Celtic are pursuing multiple midfield signings before the transfer window closes, with a deal agreed for PSV Eindhoven's Joel van den Berg and Crystal Palace's Justin Devenny emerging as another target. The Scottish Premiership champions are looking to reinvest funds from the £22 million sale of Arne Engels to West Ham earlier this month and address a lack of squad depth highlighted by their Champions League qualifying defeat to LASK Linz. The club has agreed a £3.4 million fee for 19-year-old Dutch midfielder van den Berg, who is expected to travel to the UK to complete a medical. He is viewed as a direct replacement for Engels, though he has limited first-team experience, having made only six senior appearances for PSV. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has stressed the need for greater squad depth to compete in the Europa League and defend their league title. Alongside the van den Berg deal, Celtic are considering a late move for Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny. The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international, who came through the Kilmarnock youth system, is valued at around £6 million.
