Celeste Rivas family calls for D4vd death penalty

The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez has publicly called for the death penalty for her accused killer, singer D4vd, whose full name is David Anthony Burke. The plea comes as Burke prepares to stand trial for the murder and dismemberment of the 14-year-old. In a statement released on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the eve of what would have been Celeste's 16th birthday, her family expressed their view that the death penalty would be a fitting punishment. "If the death penalty were activated, it would be perfect for this kind of human being, devoid of feelings and emptiness inside, and without conscience," the family stated. They added that the ultimate decision rests with "God, and the California justice system." Prosecutors allege that Burke murdered Celeste on April 23, 2025, after an argument. They claim he stabbed her in the garage of his Hollywood Hills home and then used a chainsaw and other tools to dismember her body. Her remains were found dismembered in the trunk of his Tesla in September 2025. Authorities have stated that Burke amputated Celeste's left ring and pinky fingers because her ring finger bore a tattoo of his name. Her fingers have not been recovered.
