CBS Developing Medical Spinoff for Fire Country Franchise
CBS is developing a medical drama spinoff set in the Fire Country universe, with actor Noah Reid cast to lead the potential series. The project, informally referred to as "Edge Med," is in early development and would become the third show in the franchise, following the original Fire Country and its successful spinoff, Sheriff Country. Reid, known for his role on Schitt's Creek, has been cast as Dr. Hudson "Hud" Henshaw, the chief of emergency medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital. According to reports, he will guest star in upcoming episodes of Sheriff Country's second season, which will serve as a backdoor pilot for the medical drama. If CBS orders the spinoff to series, Reid has an option to become a series regular and lead the new show. The character of Hud is described as charming and quick-witted but rough around the edges. He was born and raised in the outlaw hinterland known as Deadwater and is the son of convicted felons. Despite his background, he refused to use his family's drug money to pay for medical school and is now a passionate doctor committed to the community where he grew up.
