Published 27 August 2026

A man deliberately drove a car into a crowd of pedestrians near a train station in the French city of Caen on Wednesday night, killing one person and injuring 10 others, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. local time in the Normandy region, following what police sources described as an argument or fight at a nearby bar. The driver, identified as a 26-year-old Russian national, allegedly struck pedestrians on a public road opposite the city's railway station. Local prefect David Clavière confirmed the casualties, stating that one person died, seven were in critical condition, and three sustained minor injuries.
