Canon Launches EOS R8 Mark II with In-Body Stabilization

Canon has launched the EOS R8 Mark II, a full-frame mirrorless camera that adds in-body image stabilization to address a major gap in the original EOS R8. Announced on September 16, 2026, the camera features a 5-axis IBIS system rated at up to 7.5 stops, enabling sharper handheld shooting in low light and with telephoto lenses. Weighing approximately 546 grams with battery and card, it is Canon's lightest full-frame camera with stabilization. The EOS R8 Mark II builds on the 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor of its predecessor, but introduces a retro-inspired redesign with a boxy, angular body inspired by Canon's older film cameras. A new multicontroller joystick above the screen allows for quick focus point selection without removing the eye from the viewfinder. Burst shooting reaches 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, and a precontinuous shooting mode captures up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed, a feature useful for action and wildlife photography. Priced at $1,899 for the body only in the United States, the EOS R8 Mark II is positioned as a more accessible option compared to the EOS R6 Mark III.
