California Woman Charged With Murdering Two Friends

Anila Baby, a 32-year-old woman from Milpitas, California, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her two friends, Ann Mary Mathew and Anjana Hari, in separate attacks on August 28. The killings occurred approximately 90 minutes apart in the South Bay cities of San Jose and Milpitas. Prosecutors allege the attacks were willful, premeditated, and extremely violent. If convicted, Baby faces a potential sentence of 50 years to life in prison. She appeared in a Santa Clara County courtroom on September 11 for the first time and is scheduled to return on November 17 to enter a plea. The first incident took place on August 28 at Mathew's home on Linda Vista Street in San Jose. Witnesses reported an unexpected guest arriving at the door. Mathew's husband later discovered her body inside the home. Investigators determined she had been strangled and stabbed. Court documents indicate that video recordings from the residence were deleted during the attack, and Baby's sandals were found outside. Approximately 90 minutes later, Baby allegedly called Hari to the parking lot of her apartment complex in Milpitas.
