Buterin outlines Ethereum vision for 2030

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined a vision for the network in 2030 that relies more on cryptographic proofs, data sampling, privacy tools and computation performed outside its main blockchain. In a September 27 essay, he described a system in which Ethereum would verify work completed by other computers rather than requiring every network participant to repeat the same calculations. The proposal remains a long-term direction, not a confirmed implementation plan. Buterin’s design combines blockchain consensus with cryptographic proofs and decentralized computing. He said tools such as SNARKs could allow a computer that processes transactions to provide a mathematical proof that it followed the rules. Other computers could check that proof without repeating the full computation. Data sampling could also let nodes verify that information is available without downloading all of it. The approach could reduce hardware demands for people who want to run nodes and allow different computers to handle tasks in parallel. Buterin also envisages broader privacy protections, including for payment details and information disclosed when a wallet checks an account balance.
