Buss Brothers Join Padres Ownership Group

Joey and Jesse Buss, former executives with the Los Angeles Lakers, have joined the new ownership group of the San Diego Padres, the team announced on August 27, 2026. The brothers, through their investment firm Buss Sports Capital, acquired a stake of approximately 5 percent in the franchise, which was recently purchased by a group led by private equity investors José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. The purchase of the Padres closed last week at a record-setting MLB valuation of $3.9 billion.
