Bus crash in Egypt's Sinai kills at least 22

At least 22 people, including Egyptians and Jordanians, were killed and 28 others injured when a passenger bus crashed on Wednesday in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, authorities in both countries confirmed. The accident occurred on a road connecting the tourist resorts of Dahab and Nuweiba in South Sinai province. The Egyptian Health Ministry stated that 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport the dead and wounded to nearby hospitals. While the ministry did not immediately release the nationalities of the victims, Jordan's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Jordanian citizens were among those affected. The Jordanian public broadcaster Al Mamlaka reported that 10 Jordanians were killed in the crash. According to the broadcaster, the bus was traveling from Cairo to Amman when it overturned. Local media reports indicated the bus overturned after one of its tires blew out, though Egyptian health officials did not elaborate on the specific cause. The crash site is located in an area along the Red Sea coast that is popular with tourists. Deadly traffic accidents claim thousands of lives annually in Egypt, which has a poor transportation safety record.
