Bullock on Jesse James scandal, protecting infant son

Published 10 September 2026

Sandra Bullock is reflecting on the "really dark time" in her life surrounding her 2010 divorce from ex-husband Jesse James, detailing the extreme measures she took to protect her infant son, Louis, from paparazzi. In a conversation with Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine, published September 8, 2026, Bullock described the period as emotionally challenging while she was simultaneously grieving the end of her marriage and raising her newborn. Bullock, 62, said that the 2013 film "Gravity," in which she starred as an astronaut stranded in space, was particularly meaningful because its themes paralleled her own life. "Being locked in a box by myself with no one to talk to for nine hours a day, you do a lot of thinking," she recalled, referencing the isolating experience of filming. During the intense media scrutiny following reports of James's infidelity, which he publicly acknowledged, Bullock said she took extraordinary steps to shield her son, who was an infant at the time. "I realized I had to get out of the house because the paparazzi were going to descend, and no one knew I had a newborn," Bullock recounted.
