Derbyshire Police have closed their investigation into an alleged assault involving England fast bowler Brydon Carse without bringing any charges, though a separate review by the Cricket Regulator remains ongoing. The decision, announced on September 18, 2026, ends the criminal aspect of the case that had seen Carse excluded from England's squads. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 23, 2026, in Derby city centre, following Durham's County Championship victory over Derbyshire. Carse was detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was dearrested after agreeing to leave the area. Derbyshire Police stated that officers attended Molly Malones on Wardwick and that subsequent enquiries into reports of an assault were made. After the alleged victim was identified and spoken to, no further action was taken. Videos of Carse in handcuffs outside the bar were circulated on social media, showing him speaking to teammate Matthew Potts, with former England captain Ben Stokes pictured in the background. Despite the police closure, the Cricket Regulator is conducting an independent inquiry to determine if Carse breached the ECB Code of Conduct.
