Brooklyn Carnival Marred by Shootings Stabbings

Violence marred Brooklyn's annual J'Ouvert and West Indian American Day Carnival celebrations on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, with multiple shootings and stabbings reported along the parade route. In the afternoon, two separate shootings occurred. The first incident took place around 4:02 p.m. near Nostrand Avenue, where a man was shot and taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Police recovered a firearm at the scene, and one person was taken into custody. A witness described hearing "Pop, pop" after observing a group of people fighting. Just five minutes later, at approximately 4:07 p.m., another shooting occurred at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. A 37-year-old woman was shot in the leg, and a 19-year-old man sustained graze wounds to both legs. Both victims were transported to Kings County Hospital and reported to be in stable condition. Police were searching for one suspect in connection with this incident. Earlier in the day, hours before the main parade, three men were stabbed in Crown Heights. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue.
