Brook's century powers England to 119-run win over Sri Lanka

England captain Harry Brook hailed a "near-perfect" performance after his blistering unbeaten century paved the way for a 119-run thrashing of Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 international at Southampton on Tuesday. The victory, secured in front of a home crowd at the Utilita Bowl, puts England 1-0 up in the three-match series. Brook's 114 not out, scored off just 49 balls, and a typically dashing 80 from former captain Jos Buttler powered England to a commanding total of 254 for four. The pair shared a devastating second-wicket partnership of 128 runs in just 60 balls. Brook's century, his second in T20 internationals, was his first in 18 international innings across all formats and equalled Liam Livingstone for England's joint second-fastest in the format. Faced with a huge chase, Sri Lanka were never in the hunt. The tourists were bowled out for 135 in 19 overs, with fast bowler Sonny Baker taking a miserly 3 for 12 on his Hampshire home ground. Baker's figures represented his first wickets in whiteball internationals.
