British Man Charged With Assisting Russian Intelligence

A British national, Joshua Cammidge, 31, has been charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service and engaging in preparatory conduct for an alleged sabotage plot, authorities announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The charges were brought by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) under the United Kingdom's National Security Act. Cammidge was arrested on Friday, September 4, 2026, by Counter Terrorism Policing London and Wiltshire Police at an address in Swindon. Officers also searched another property in the town. He was further detained on September 5, 2026, before being formally charged. According to the CPS and police statements, the charges relate to alleged contact with a representative of the GRU Volunteer Corps. UK authorities describe this group as controlled by Russia's military intelligence agency.
